Poster session at ALA Annual 2018!

Poster session at ALA Annual 2018!

I'm very excited to share that my proposal for a poster session at 2018 ALA Annual Conference (New Orleans) was accepted! My area of research is project management in large-scale digitization and my poster will provide a specific proven-to-work tool-set for attendees who are novice in this area or those who have experience and look for fresh approaches to increase their efficiency.

If you attend ALA Annual 2018, please stop by - my session is scheduled for June 24 at 3:30-5:00 pm. I'll be happy to see you there!

UNLV Digital Collections Landing Pages

Landing pages

Recently, I completed one of my current projects - updating the landing pages of the UNLV Libraries Digital Collections.

This was a challenging project and I had to participate in the decision-making process to balance out all advantages and disadvantages of building and maintaining landing pages of the UNLV Digital Collections. I also had to deal with a few technology challenges and to find a way to overcome them in order to design custom landing pages for each of our collections. It was a long project that required much time-commitment and now that it's completed I'm so excited to share this accomplishment with everyone.

Working on this project, refreshed my memory how awesome our digital collections are. You can find anything on it - cool photographs of showgirls, prominent people, historic events; rare and historically significant documents and manuscripts; oral histories and much more!

If you haven't visited UNLV's awesome Digital Collections, it's never late to do so! Just go to http://digital.library.unlv.edu/ and enjoy!

The slides from the presentation upon the project completion are available in the Presentations section.

Presentation at the Clark County NV Genealogy Society Meeting

Presentation of Nevada Digital Newspaper Project and Chronicling America at the Clark County Nevada Genealogy Society meeting

March 24, 2018
Paseo Verde Library
Henderson, NV

Last Saturday the Nevada Digital Newspaper Project team delivered a presentation of the project and a demonstration of Chronicling America at the monthly meeting of the Clark County Nevada Genealogy Society at Paseo Verde Library in Henderson, NV.

As a former Project Manager of the largest Nevada newspaper digitization project I was honored to be invited as a co-speaker at this great event for passionate researchers. My part of the program was to introduce the Nevada Digital Newspaper Project to the genealogy researchers and to talk about the state of Nevada's huge contribution to the nation's largest historic newspaper repository. Additionally, I also presented and demoed the project website which I developed during my appointment as a  Project Manager. The project website is a very informative resource for researches and focuses on the selected titles for digitization, early Nevada history and project updates.

The program was very successful - it sparkled immense interest in the audience. During the Q&A session the attendees followed up with many specific questions.

After the program, while making my way to my car, multiple attendees stopped me to warmly thank me for this informative and inspiring event. All this positive feedback and the numerous interactions with the audience, made me feel so proud and so happy to be part of this!

Library Schools in Session | an MLIS Panel

Library Schools in Session | an MLIS Panel

March 18, 2018
Rainbow Library, Las Vegas, NV

Sponsored by the Nevada Library Association Leadership and Mentoring Committee

Last week I had the privilege to participate in a panel session organized by the Nevada Library Association. It was attended by people interested in the librarian profession and planning to attend library school to pursue a master degree in library and information science.

As a panelist I represented the school I graduated from - the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, the School of Information Studies.

All panelists shared their personal experience, their challenges along the way and some insightful tips how to cope with the stress and how to manage the huge workload at school while working a full-time job.

Panelists also shared some pieces of advice with the attendees, as well as in what way the MLIS degree enhanced their skill set and how this helps them on a daily basis at work.
